Ember of the Lost Kings
★★★★☆ 4.4
Ember of the Lost Kings is a proper little RPG that respects your time. Battles are turn-based, so you can think, put the phone down mid-fight, and come back later without losing anything. The party of four each brings a distinct role, and swapping them around genuinely changes how a fight goes.
The writing is better than it needs to be. Side characters have their own small arcs, and choices in dialogue nudge how people treat you later. Grinding is kept mild, which I appreciated — I never felt walled off from the story by a level gate.
It asks for a bit more attention than a quick arcade game, but for evenings on the couch it hits a sweet spot. A slow starter that pays off once the party opens up.
What we liked
- Pausable, thoughtful battles
- Characters worth caring about
